Truly "Incredible"

Image
★★ ★  1/2  out of ★★★★ The Incredibles (2004) Runtime: 115 minutes MPAA: Rated PG for action violence. In light of the recent popular meme showing Mr. Incredible getting increasingly traumatized with creepier music in each phase, I figured out it'd be a great time revisiting this Pixar gem. Hailed as one of Pixar's best animations to date, The Incredibles takes familiar material and spoofs them with astounding energy. Superheroes Mr. Incredible (named Bob Parr, voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (named Helen Parr, voiced by Holly Hunter) are world-famous superheroes constantly battling crime in their local neighborhood, Metroville. Eventually, a series of events including a disrupted suicide and city wreckage brings superheroes to a ban, where they would have to blend in with civilians and adopt to a "normal life". We jump to 15 years later, where we see Bob working a mundane, 9-to-5 job at Insuricare. Helen, on the other hand, takes care of the three kids the...

★★ ★  1/2  out of ★★★★ Incredibles 2 (2018) Runtime: 118 minutes MPAA: Rated PG for action sequences and some brief mild language. "Sequels don't live up to the original." I understand, it's a hackneyed singular sentence that could be used to describe almost every sequel that exists. Usually, writers struggle to keep its predecessor's standards and the imposing elements. The Incredibles 2 is not one of them. Thanks to its carefully devoted time to create a smooth continuation of the ground-breaking 2004 hit The Incredibles, you feel like watching the first entry; it's got the aesthetic feel, spot-on emotion, competent pacing, several laughs, and more dazzling action. Set about almost immediately after The Incredibles, The Incredibles 2 finds the Parr family unsuccessfully dueling the Underminer, while causing detrimental chaos to the city. With their future becoming progressively worse, Lucius (Samuel L. Jackson) hands Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nel...

★★  out of ★★★★ Quantum of Solace (2008) Runtime: 106 minutes MPAA: Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and some sexual content. Quantum of Solace is full-fledged action from start to finish. While watching it, I had several things in mind. Isn't it convenient how even main characters appear and disappear throughout the first hour of the movie? Couldn't it have been made after the Writer's Strike? Why is the camera so shaky and cuts fast-moving? Picking up immediately after Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace finds James Bond (Daniel Craig) avenging Vesper Lynd's death and pursuing the members related to her killing, including an anonymous man named Mr. White. Bond captures Mr. White and puts him in interrogation, where White reveals to Bond and M (Dame Judi Dench) that they are oblivious to a worldwide organization, and that members of the organization are within Bond and M's community. Soon, Bond discovers that the organization, led by Dominic G...
